The 10u Lightning showed very well in their first tournament of their 10u season. Playing in the Tournament of Champions, the Lightning dominated pool play outscoring their opponents 55-12 in four games while going 4-0.

Ethan S had a huge game 1 vs the SFV Vapors going 3-3 with 4 RBI’s. Jayson M, Trevor H, and JD N also added 2 RBI’s of their own. Sawyer V came in for early relief work and struck out 4 batters in three innings. Ethan “Jensen” S also came into close the game and struck out all three batters he faced.

Game 2 consisted of dominate power pitching from Matthew M and Jayson M in a combined no-hit effort against the NV Road Dawgs. Matthew M threw just 13 pitches in two impressive innings of work. Brayden L, Malachi A, and Jayson M all added 2 RBI’s to the Bolts offense.

The Lightning spent the majority of Day 2 pool play in the batter’s box. In game 3 against the CBA Outlaws, the Bolts put 30 balls in play over their 33 AB’s. Trevor H and Logan G led the way with 3 hits. After a tough first inning, Cash C held strong on the bump and only gave up three runs in 3 innings. Cameron G came in and threw well to finish the game showing off his much-improved velocity.

Game 4 against the SoCal Sticks featured strong defensive plays behind starting pitcher Logan G. Although he walked 4 batters, the defensive found ways to get outs with heady defensive plays. The Bolts executed two rundowns at the plate and to prevent 2 runs from scoring. Trevor H gunned a runner from right field trying to take 2 on a base hit down the right field line. And Preston P made a great back up play after an overthrow to finish a double play. Preston P also went an impressive 6-7 offensively in his first tournament with the Lightning.

In a championship matchup against the SN Bruins, LVBA’s bats ran out of juice. Weak contact against a quality pitcher was a recipe for disaster offensively. The Bruins defense made all of the routine plays and threw in a couple extraordinary to boot. On the other hand, LVBA struggled mightily defensively with 8 errors behind what was solid pitching from Matthew M, Malachi A, and Jayson M.  Uncharacteristic throwing errors made for an extremely sloppy game for the Lightning. When the dust settled, the SN Bruins were victorious 12-4.  A tough loss after what looked to be an extraordinary start to their 10u season. All players chipped in during the course of the tournament and showcased their abilities. The coaching staff was very impressed with their pool play efforts and some signs of resiliency in the championship game.

These boys will bounce back with a vengeance come their next tournament.
