Congrats to the 9U LVBA Lightning "TEAM" for going 4-0 this previous weekend in the Diamond Duel Tournament.  The team boasted excellent offensive production from the entire team putting up 73 runs in 4 games.  Strong offense and multiple pitchers proving their dominance on the mound ensued with every game being a run rule for the 9u Lightning team.

Game 1 of the tournament was against the 8u Team Adidas.  The boys jumped out early with 7 in the first, put up 7 more in the second, and 11 in the 3rd to post a final score of 25-5.  Every member of the team scored a run in the game.  The pitchers used in this ball game, Cash R and Vincent S, posted a no hitter in the game while striking out 5.

Game 2 of pool play the Lightning were matched up against the Road Dawgs.  The pitching and defense were outstanding again for the Lightning.  Ridge O and Noah H combined to give up only 1 hit.  A couple walks were the only blemish on the day for them.  Noah H recorded 5 strikeouts in his 2 1/3 innings of work. Micah A and Jake G had some big swings for the Lightning in this game.

Game 3 was a match-up against 8u Team Adidas.  A similar result occurred from the day before with a 19-4 victory by the Lightning.  Jameson D had a good first start on the mound for the Lightning with 4 K's and 2 earned runs over 3 innings of playoff baseball.  Micah A and Bryson D hit doubles, Jake G had 3 hits, and 8 players on the team recorded 2 runs scored.

The Championship Game of the tournament was against a usual opponent in the Vegas Xpress.  First inning was three up, three down from both sides.  Second inning they posted 1 off a huge blast in the gap.  The Lighting responded with a big 5 spot.  The bottom of the Lightning lineup made the first strike.  Ty C, Micah A, and Noah H each had huge RBI singles for us during the inning.  Cash R had another great swing to continue the trend, but a solid defensive play by the right fielder ended our inning.  The next inning, we put up another big 5 spot.  Up 10-1, the team was in a great position to end the game with a run rule.  Of course, the Vegas Xpress continued to fight and battled back.  As true team depth offensively and on the mound really started to show, the Lightning extended their lead again.  They won the championship 15-7.

The baserunning was tremendous all tournament taking extra bases and constantly putting pressure on the opposing teams.  Walks turned into multiple bases with our ability to steal bases and put our hitters in great positions to hit.  It should be a hitter's dream to always have runners in scoring position when up to bat.  As the 2018 season is moving along the 9u Lightning are off to a tremendous start and look forward to seeing great competition in upcoming tournaments and hope to maintain their high level of play.
