For the Mother’s Day weekend, the Lightning 10u ran their own scientific baseball experiment, as they attempted to play as a club baseball Jekyll and Hyde. The boys had a rollercoaster weekend that showcased two polar opposite teams. On the first day, they competed for half of the time, and seemed like they would rather be at home for the other half. This lackadaisical attitude led to two rough losses in games that they easily could have won. For the last year, there has been this steady trend of a team with two faces. After game two, there was long discussion about what it means to compete and play for each other, and it may have made something click.

The next day, there was a different attitude in the dugout. Eli A took charge in game 1 on the mound and pitched four solid innings. Justin C got comfortable at shortstop, providing clean defense all day. Kyle J got the offense going with his first homerun (that still might not have landed). The offense fed off of this energy and took their hot bats into the second game.  Luke Lind. continued to prove he deserves to bat in the leadoff spot, getting on base four times total in the day. Luke L, JJ S, and Michael B all hit for doubles in the second game, which led to their new doubles dance. Xzavian J hit multiple doubles, and his third career home run. Alfonso C was in perfect sync with his battery mate, Jake M, as he nearly threw a perfect game. Overall, the boys’ energy and attitude proved to be the difference in their play between the two days. Nothing else had changed. Hopefully, they will carry this newfound attitude in the next tournament to play to their true potential.
