8u Stays Competitive While Playing Up in Age

Playing in the 9u division the 8u lightning team battled and were extremely competitive in their first experience of leadoffs, balks, and holding baserunners.  On Saturday there were plenty of learning moments and opportunities for the players to excel on the day. First game on Saturday, against the Cannon Club strong pitching by Jake G slowed the offense of the other team.  Ridge O and Marco C were on base three teams to lead the offense.  Rocco G came up with some timely hits to drive in key runs.  The 8u Lightning built a 5 run lead but couldn't shut the door defensively.  They fell in a tough game 11-10 in a

walk off.  Second game of the day was against the 9u Road Dawgs.  The Road Dawgs jumped out early, with a commanding lead, the Lightning never gave in.  Continued to grind at bats and find ways on base they started to build innings late in the game.  Every player contributed offensively through hits, walks, and quality at bats when time mattered most.  From being down 5 runs, the Lightning took the lead with big swings from Jack D and Mason DAlex S and Vincent S had timely hits to keep the innings rolling.  Unfortunately, the late inning defense wasn't able to close the door and the Lightning suffered their second 11-10 walk off loss on the day.  Jayson M played unbelievable defense recording 7 putouts.

Sunday the 8u team was matched up against fellow 8u, Vegas Express. Pitching from the other side was dominant and their bats hit everything. Mason D battled to limit the opposition as long as he could before Marco C came in and limited the damage.  Cash R and Noah H each hit the ball well in this game.  The team competed with the new rules and further field dimensions to stay competitive in the Las Vegas Baseball Bash Tournament.
