8u Team Competes Well in Phoenix

On day one in Phoenix, the 8u Lightning team had one pool play game vs The Legends (CA). Dominant pitching and a clutch grand slam by Vincent Sorrillo led to a 4-2 opening victory.

On the second day there were pool play games against two more California teams. 8u Lightning ended up splitting the day beating All American White 10-7 and received its first loss against Hunter Pence Baseball Academy 9-6. A late rally made the game come down to the wire.

Receiving the 1 seed in the AA bracket, the opening game was against the North County Studs (CA). The 8u lightning jumped out early but squandered their lead late. It set the stage for a walk-off base hit by Jack Dutro. Semi-finals were played against the All American Blue (CA). They had big innings early, but Rocco Germano silenced their bats for 4 innings allowing for the Lightning offense to wake up. Key hits by Noah Henneman and Alex Savov kept the inning rolling. Being down 7-0 the boys battled back with 2 in the 5th, then 4 in the bottom of the 6th. Unfortunately, the team fell just short of capturing the comeback. The perseverance from the entire team was exciting to endure. Jayson Marquez had a stellar pitching weekend pitching multiple times in relief, compiled 10 k’s in 4 innings of work.

In the 8u team’s first out of town tournament, there were many learning moments and great experiences to cherish for years to come.
