8u Lightning Team Wins March Mayhem Tournament
Congratulations to the 8u LVBA Lightning team for being victorious in the 2018 March Mayhem tournament.  The 8u team went 1-1 in pool play.  A tough loss in a competitive game to the Vegas Express 9-7. The Express jumped out early, but Marco C came into pitch and stopped the momentum. Competitive at bats from the bottom of the order sparked some life in the late innings but couldn’t find the last break to tie the game in the last inning. Game 2 the 8u Lightning capitalized on miscues from the other team. Creating constant pressure on the base-paths and all hitters putting the ball in play led to a dominant 10-1 victory. Ridge O pitched phenomenal against the Lake Havasu Scorpions.

On championship day, the Lightning played the Scorpions in the semi-final.  Lightning had shutdown pitching and defense in this game.  The bats came to life and hits were contagious. Game 3 final score was 10-0 Lightning.  Game 4 for the weekend was a rematch with the Vegas Express. Tons of energy and all the bats catching fire led to the Lightning getting an early 4-1 lead. Mason D, Jason M, and Jack D came up with huge base hits. Next inning the Express built an inning, but Cash R made the play of the weekend with a diving back handed catch to end their rally.  In the following inning big swings by Noah H and Vincent S allowed the Lightning to extend their lead. Jason Marquez was outstanding in his 4 innings on the mound.   Marquez had great defense behind him with Rocco G being solid behind the plate and Sorrillo making 6 plays at second base.  The final score was 13-2 and the 8u team had another successful tournament. A strong showing in this tournament helps them prepare for their upcoming, highly anticipated tournament in Phoenix, Az.
