The 12u Bolt’s looked to impress in a four-game guarantee tournament over the weekend. LVBA opened Game 1 on Saturday against American Pastime Baseball, NM.  The game went the full six because Dom L. (2 R, 3H, BB. 4k’s) dominated on the mound, giving up 2 runs on 58 pitches. The defensive was definitely behind him as the infield of Kole T. Jack P, Ty K, and Lucas S. turned three double plays. The offense took off behind Lucas S and Big Kat H., both with huge days going (3-6, 3 HR’s, 4 RBI’s). The Bolt’s would go on to win the game 5-2.

The second half of the double header against WKAC Warriors, HI provided us with another great performance from the starting pitching. Jack P. (4 IP, 2 ER, 5 K’s, 4 BB’s) battled through windy conditions and came through with big pitches with runners on base. The offense carried the load by collecting 12 runs on 10 hits. Chad L. had two early RBI’s, Ty K. and Eisa K. also collected hits in the 4th inning run rule.  The boys ended day one (2-0) tied for the first seed; they would only need one win to play on Monday for the championship.

Day 2 of the Memorial Day Bash did not go the way the Bolt’s anticipated. Game 3 of the tournament pitted the Bolt’s against Project X Clutch, NV.  This match up was a barnburner the whole game. The offense came out swinging scoring 3 runs in the first behind a first inning double from Lucas S. Big Kat H. added to the party with a RBI base hit. The pair would also hit back-to-back HR in the third to give the Bolt’s the lead heading into the last inning. Project X Clutch did not get cheated on many swings as the Bolt’s pitching staff gave up 11 hits leading to 12 runs. Ultimately defensive errors, walks, and timely hitting from the opponent led to a 12-8 loss. Heading into Game 4 the Bolt’s would need to win in order to play in the championship rounds on Monday.

Game 4 against the Downey Dirt Devils, CA (the eventual tourney CHAMPS) was a very entertaining game. However, errors and walks dug the Bolt’s an early hole after the second inning as the Bolt’s were down by 5 runs.  Tanner T. and Kenji O. competed on the mound, but it wasn’t enough.  The offense was stagnant; scoring only 1 run on 5 hits, and 7 K’s. The Bolt’s would go on to lose 9-1, and be eliminated from Championship play on Monday.

Great things happened this weekend, and not so great of things happened this weekend. This was a weekend that will have a lasting impact on the TEAM as we move forward in preparation for our Cooperstown trip in August!  STAY POSITIVE TEAM…
