9U LVBA Lightning Wins Silver Championship

On Saturday of the Dry Heat Showdown the 9U Lightning team had a rough day. Losing both
on the day, 9-6 to SDA Reign out of California and 8-2 to AZ643 Baseball out of Phoenix. In
game 1, Mason D. pitched 4.2 innings and struck out 7. Rocco G. had a big single clearing the
bases and drove in 3 of the Lightning’s 6 runs. Against AZ643 Baseball Jake G. pitched 2.1 and
was knocked around. Alex S. came in and slowed down the opponents bats. Alex pitched 2.1
and gave up 2 unearned runs. On the day the Lightning offense struggled with 18 strikeouts
and only a handful of hard hit balls.
Onto championship Sunday, the 9U Lightning were placed in the silver bracket. Game 1,
matched up against 9U Southern Nevada. Lightning offense had a much better day Sunday.
The team jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back. In the 4th and 5th innings the
Bolts broke it open and finished the game with a 15-3 score. Jake G. and Rocco G. had multiple
hits on the day. Mason D. and Connor M. drove in 2 runs each. After way too many strikeouts
Saturday, the team responded with only 1 punchout in this game. Bryson D. threw out another
runner behind the plate and Marco C. had a solid performance on the mound, pitching 4 innings
and 5 strikeouts.
In the championship game, the 9U Lightning were facing Santa Ana All Stars. Santa Ana
jumped out early and gained a 6-3 lead after two innings. Offense continued to heat up as the
day got warmer. In the 3rd and 4th innings the team posted 4 runs in each inning. That created
a 11-7 lead and never faltered from there. Connor M. had an off start on the mound, but Jake
G. came in and pitched phenomenally. Jake G. pitched 3.1 with no runs allowed and only 3
baserunners given up. The bolts had 6 doubles in the game being led by Jameson D. with 2 of
them. Ty C, Mason D, Jake G, and Connor M each had a double. With a final score of 11-7 the
9U Lightning won the silver championship.
