During the April 6th and 7th weekend the 9U LVBA Lightning competed in the April Madness tournament.  Game 1 of the tournament the Lightning fell 13-4 to Team Adidas.  The opposing bats were too strong for the defense.  Connor McDonald came into the game and relief and had a great outing.  Costly defensive plays allowed for big innings by the opposition.  Jameson D. went 2-2 and Ty C. had a big 2b for the Lightning.

The next game on Saturday was against the CBA Hustle. A high scoring affair between both teams.  For the first three innings each team posted 2 runs in the half inning.  Jake G. went 2-2 with a BB, Mason D. had 2 hits, and Marco C. reached base 3 times.  All members of the Lightning recorded a hit and as a team recorded 12 stolen bases.  The offensive production was magnificent.  Rocco G. started the game, pitching 2 innings and allowing 4 runs, but all unearned.  Mason D. came into finish the game over the last three innings and recorded 5 punch-out's. The Lightning came out ahead in this game 14-9.

Onto championship Sunday, the 9U Lightning was matched up against the CBA Hustle.  After a high offensive display the previous day, this game was played much differently.  Pitchers limited baserunners and catchers stopped the running game.  Each team threw out runners on stolen base attempts.  Marco C. and Jake G. combined for 5 innings and only allowed 2 earned runs.  The defense made mistakes which allowed for 6 more runs to cross. Jake G. had 3 BB's and Mason D. went 3-4 to lead the offense.  Entering the last inning the 9U Lightning were down 7-3.  The bottom of the lineup found ways on base and put stress on the defense.  Vincent S. came up big with a two out, game tying 2 RBI base knock.  Unfortunately, the rally ended at a tie.  Bottom of the 6th the Hustle's leadoff hitter started the inning with a double, stole 3b and we balked him in.  Balk off loss for the Bolts, but a much better defensive display after the high scoring affair in the previous game.

Keep working hard TEAM!  Us coaches are impressed with your continued progress so far in 2019…
