LVBA 10u Lighting “TEAM” won the Battle Born championship this past weekend with competitive pitching and balanced lineup. Most of the pitchers threw strikes and battled through adversity when the defense made mistakes. The strongest part of the weekend though, was their balanced lineup. Contact, power, and speed were all on display 1-10 in the lineup. Small ball and strong base running also aided the offensive attack.

Game 1 vs the High Heat was too close for comfort. The Lighting had to fight uphill as they misplayed several balls resulting in errors and extra baserunners. Brayden L took the ball for game one and was competitive around the zone. Lincoln M came in for relief and struck out 6 batters in 3 innings of work. Jayson M, Brayden L and Lincoln M all found a base hit to give LVBA its 3 hits of the game. Regardless of only 3 hits, the Lighting manufactured 8 runs and ended up winning 8-6.

In game 2 vs Team Adidas, LVBA’s defensive woes continued as they missed several routine ground balls on a perfect turf surface. Luckily, Cameron G filled up the strikezone as he struck out 7 batters in 4 innings of work. Sawyer V had a 2 hit game while Jayson M, Baryden L and Austin H all had 2 RBI’s in the contest. Logan G also had a single on his first day back on the field for the Lighting in 6+ months. Jayson M came in and closed the door striking out 2 of the final 3 outs so LVBA could win 11-3.

Game 3 vs the LV Thunder was a fun one. The boys put up 10 runs in the first inning but unfortunately only another two over the final 3 innings due to lack of offensive execution and poor 2 strike approaches. Sawyer V, Austin H and Preston P all threw great in the contest. Lincoln M and Trevor H (2 doubles) both swung it well this game and had 3 RBIs a piece. Preston P also swung a hot stick with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. LVBA cruised to a 12-3 win in what should have been a much more dominate game.

In game 4, the boys found themselves in the championship against LV Swing and some familiar foes. LVBA put a ton of pressure offensively as they hit balls to all parts of the field. In addition, they executed in all 3 phases of LVBA’s 10u expectations. 1- Throw strikes. Justin C was an absolute dude on the mound. He dominated the LV Swing by striking out 5, walking 3, and only allowing two hits in 5 innings of work. 2- Make the routine plays. Cameron G and Jayson M made multiple routine plays behind their pitcher. 3- Play with SHOCKING energy and effort. Lincoln M and Trevor H made sure to bring the noise and kept the defense on point. Offensively, the Lightning put up 11 hits and scored 7 runs. Sawyer V had 3 hits while Jayson M, Justin C and Preston P all had two big knocks. Final score, 7-3 LVBA.

Overall, they boys played their best ball when it mattered and they secured the championship. It was a total team effort as every player contributed in multiple ways. LVBA heads to Arizona for their next tournament and looks to defend their title as Champions.
