It was another tournament weekend for the 8u Lightning, as they competed in the March Mayhem 9u division. LVBA competed in all three games this past weekend but went home with nothing to show for it. The Lightning started the weekend off with a local opponent in the Las Vegas Gamers 9u. It was a hard fought five innings in game one, but in the end the Gamers would pull away winning 14-9. Offensively the Lightning would get contribution from all over the lineup; JaBron J (1-2), Derek K (1-2) RBI, Lucas O (1-2), Chase L (1-2) and Noah S (1-2) RBI all collected base hits with Rocco R (1-2) and Giovanni G (1-2) both adding doubles and an RBI. Enzo Z added a walk, run scored and 2 stolen bases to add to the teams 14 total bags swiped. Dillin T got the start for LVBA, striking out two in 2.2 innings only allowing 3 hits and 4 earned runs.

In the best game of the weekend, the 8u Lightning would face off against Team Adidas 9u for a thrilling back and fourth four innings. After competing and leading throughout the game, in the end LVBA would come up just short again, losing 8-7 in the bottom of the fourth. At the plate the Lightning would collect 7 hits scattered throughout the lineup; Dillin T (1-2), Noah S (1-1), Lucas O (1-3), JaBron J (1-2) and Derek K (1-2) RBI with base knocks and Giovanni G (1-1) and Chase L (1-1) 2 RBI both collecting doubles. Hudson C added a HBP, 2 stolen bases and a run scored as the Lightning ran wild again on the base paths swiping 18 total bases. Maverick C got the ball for game two with a strong start, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits and most impressively zero walks. Lucas O and JaBron J both tossed one strong inning, both collecting two strikeouts.

Going into Sunday and game 3 of the weekend, the 8u Lightning would earn the 5 seed and face a familiar foe in the CBA Navy. After leading throughout, LVBA would fall just short in five innings 9-6. The top of the order led the way for the Lightning in this one, collecting 5 of the 6 hits and all 3 RBI; JaBron J (1-3), Derek K (1-2), Rocco R (2-3) 2 RBI, and Noah S (1-2) RBI. Dillon T (1-1) and Lucas O (0-0) both reached base safely in their two trips to the plate; with Dillin T adding a base knock and a walk and Lucas O recording two walks in two plate appearances. On the mound LVBA would get the best pitching performance of the season out of JaBron J, striking out 2 and only allowing 3 runs on 5 hits in three strong hard-fought innings. Maverick C was called on late to work out of a jam and did just that, getting two outs on two strikeouts to give the Lightning one last chance at the plate. Overall it was another impressive showing for the young 8u Lightning, who continue to compete and impress the 9u competition.
