Vision/Purpose

Teaching Principles

Train Players Mentally: Through practices, games, tournaments, handouts, and lectures, players will learn skill techniques relating to movements and positioning. They are expected to execute proper techniques regarding:

  • Infield/Outfield play - fielding ground balls and fly balls
  • Catching and throwing
  • Pitching using a fastball and change-up
  • Hitting - using the 1, 2, 3 method
  • Bunting - sacrifice, drag, push squeeze, and slap bunt
  • Base Running - sliding, primary, secondary, tagging up
  • Catchers - throwing, blocking, calling a game, bunts, blocking the plate.

Emotional Training

  • Help players understand that baseball is a game of failure and you cannot let yourself get caught up in the emotions of the game.

What Makes the LVBA Lightning Successful

  • We believe in teaching accountability, respect, and discipline regarding family, school work, and the team.
  • The coaching staff consists of coaches that have competed at the major league, minor league, and college levels.
  • All teams participate in physical skill testing regarding foot speed, arm strength and exit velocity for hitting.   Classroom testing is done regarding position specific responsibilities, game situations (Offense & Defense) and rules of the game.
  • We have our own training facility complete with batting cages, bullpens, and a field.
  •  All LVBA Lightning coaches are CPR certified and have received background checks.

Mission

To expose all players/parents in the organization to the finest baseball instructional information available while creating a disciplined practice/game environment that requires responsibility of both players and parents.

Perspective

Coaches, players and parents must realize that improvement is a process and not a single event. The goal is a persistent, honest effort over time. Also we must never forget that baseball is a game to be played and not worked. Fun must be our common denominator.
