The Dry Heat Showdown, technically labeled the Nevada State Championship tournament, completed this weekend. The 12u LVBA team entered the tournament, and come 5pm on Sunday, they left named the Nevada State Champions!

The team went 1-1 in pool play, and entered the championship rounds as the 2 seed. The team came out in the semifinals with a top local team on the other side of the field, the Vegas Wolfpack. After 6 innings, the score was tied 4-4 and the teams went into extra innings. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Lightning came home with the win behind a walk-off single by Kaiden Hernandez. With that came a masterful relief appearance by Seth Lyons, who threw 4 innings and did not allow a baserunner, along with 11 (!!) strikeouts.

The team then went into the championship against another local powerhouse, the Nevada Wildcats.  In the definition of a see-saw game, the Lightning went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, before falling behind 2-1 after the bottom of the inning. Throughout the game, the score kept on bouncing back and forth between the two sides, before the Lightning took the lead 7-6 in the top of the 6th inning, and Sergio Jaramillo finished the game for the championship victory.

The battle and fight that these boys showed throughout the day was special, and is one of the biggest factors that makes this such a quality team. Regardless of what is happening, these players do nothing except fight through it. There is only more success coming down the road for them as they get deep into their Cooperstown prep, and the organization is very excited to see what they can do. Great job boys!

Happy Mothers Day, 12u Moms! Your boys got you some bling!
