The 11u Lightning hit the road to Fountain Valley, California this past weekend, where they competed in the Xtreme Diamond Series Firecracker Classic. After going 2-0 in pool play and securing the number 2 seed in the 7 team tournament, they began championship day against the 7 seed Whittier Pony Red in the quarterfinals. Just as they did the day before in pool play, the Lightning walked out with a 9-1 victory, advancing to the semifinals against 3 seed NLB Waves, who they beat 8-3 in pool play. After trailing 3-0 for a good portion of the game, the Lightning battled back to win 5-4, with Joey Schimick providing the walk-off double in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Lightning then matched up with the ELB Select in the championship, bouncing out to a 4-1 lead in the first inning, and never looking back. They brought back the championship hardware with a 9-1 run-rule.

This was an unbelievable team performance, with every player delivering major contributions en route to this impressive Southern California victory. Now comes the fun part, as this team begins their preparation for the XDS World Series in San Diego. Keep up the great work, and there is much more fun to come!
