Both the 8u and 9u Lightning teams traveled to Lake Havasu this past weekend for the 9th Annual Baseball By the Bridge. The tournament started on the right foot with the 8u team beginning 2-0, the first tournament wins of that teams young existence. In game 1 against a very good Lake Havasu Scorpions team, the boys battled back down from a 7-5 deficit in the last inning to win 8-7, thanks to a Xzavian Johnson walk-off single. Game 2 resulted in a 6-1 win against the Tri-City Venom, helped in large part by a complete game pitching performance from Ethan Schneiderman, clinching the number 2 seed for the team going into the championship rounds. However, that is as far as it would go, with the Bolts losing to the Lake Havasu Scorpions in the semifinals 4-3, in an unbelievably well played baseball game. The effort that these players showed was incredible, but the improvement they showed since their last tournament was even better. Hats off to an outstanding showing by this team, and it's only going to get better and better. Keep working hard, and the improvement comes.

The 9u Bolts had a very successful weekend in Lake Havasu.  Not only did the boys conduct themselves as young men off the field, but they enjoyed a successful weekend on the field as well.  The TEAM started off the tournament with a resounding 23-4 victory in Game 1 of the tournament.  After taking a tough loss, despite battling back, they had to win 2 games on Sunday to win the championship.  The boys came out with a lot of energy, and in a well played game we came away with a 5-4 come from behind victory with the GW hit by Alfonso Cisneros who caught 3 of the 4 games this weekend.  Game 2 was a total TEAM effort, and led by a strong pitching and hitting performance from Kenji Okano, the boys held on to avenge their earlier loss to the Lake Havasu Scorpions with a 10-5 victory to claim the title.  The boys are learning how to win and become baseball players and it was a joy to watch them come away with a title for their efforts. Well done boys!
